Website gets many compliments…

One of my customers who owns a boat tour business down the west coast of  scenic South Island gets a lot of compliments for her website.

She used to have a simple HTML site.  I revamped the site for her about a year ago to a WordPress site. She saw a good jump in her traffic and her bookings. One of the reasons is she writes a post in her blog occasionally. Imagine her traffic if she does regularly!

she is very happy with the site and regularly gets compliments. Here is what she wrote to me yesterday:-

” Getting lots of compliments for the site, even from a web designer who is staying here so all is well!”

She loves it so much that she wants a second site for another business of hers.

As a small business the website is crucial to her marketing and bookings. So if you are a small business and want an editable website that you can update easily contact me today!

Pixels is getting revamped

I am working on making this site more up to date with look and feel. Of course it will still beon WordPress. Just revamping the look. Hopefully it will be completed by this weekend.

I can’t stress more on having a wordpress site. Looking at my blog stats I have watched my traffic grow so much. All the stats can be viewed with a few clicks. You know

  • Where your visitor came from
  • What keyword they used
  • Who refered you
  • Which pages they visited
  • You can endlessly tweak your content to suit your visitors.

You can update and add content in a few clicks as well. And when I am traveling I still update my site.

What more can you ask for? So those of you that have a HTML site and want to change it to WordPress and see some quick traffic and conversions contact me for a quote.

website design that works

  • For a small business your website is a working horse. Make it work to your advantage
  • As you can see, the new site has a ton of features the old site doesn’t:
  • Have a good clean professional looking design
  • information that will generate a sale or booking should be visible clearly at the top of the page
  • Free quote enquire now will generate leads
  • the Buy Now visible prominently on the home page
  • Phone number/contact details on every page to encourage people to ring you
  • Blog – keep your prospects and customers always in the loop about your products or services.
  • Display a gallery of your products/wares in a simple way with some description if neccessary
  • Have the site optimised for your niche keywords
  • Use web 2.0 methods like Twitter, Facebook, Blog, Feeds to spread awareness of your products.(One of my customers saw a big jump in his traffic to his site by tweeting on Twitter. Now he has a good relevant following there.)
  • Blog regularly with good relevant posts

Music downloads

I read this news yesterday.

A US student ordered to pay $675,000 (£404,000) for sharing music online has refused help paying the fine.
Mr Tenenbaum was ordered to pay the money to four record labels. On Friday, the jury ordered Mr Tenebaum to pay $22,500 for each infringement. The maximum that he could have been fined was $4.5m.

Mr Tenenbaum used a computer at his parents’ home and at his college to download and distribute digital files. Under US law, the recording companies are entitled to $750 to $30,000 per infringement.

However, the jury can raise the amount to $150,000 per track if it finds the infringements were wilful. In the Minnesota case, the jury awarded $80,000 per song.On the stand, Mr Tenenbaum admitted that he had downloaded more than 800 songs since 1999.”I used the computer. I uploaded, I downloaded music,” he told the court under questioning from his own lawyer, Charles Nesson. He said he had used Napster and then Kazaa to download the files.

“It was like this giant library in front of you,” he said. The recording industry has recently changed its tactics in file-sharing cases, preferring to settle quickly for much smaller amounts.

I guess we all have to make these choices whether we like it or not. I tend to stay away from illegal downloads of any kind. In the long run it does not pay. In one way or other you are kind of stealing. I just use iTunes.
It is easy convenient and not very expensive. So yeah if you want to avoid all those hassles caused by illegal downloading try iTunes

Here in New Zealand the Government is thinking of passing a law to ban people who dowload/upload files illegally using , Kazaa soul seek and the like . Even businesses can get banned. They are reworking the law as the first draft was too harsh and there were too many protests.

I set up a review site last night for a product with WordPress. It is a simple 4 page site with some useful articles. Guess what this morning in my stats I saw 11 unique hits.! If I had done a static HTML site I am sure this would have taken about 2-3 weeks or more. Two keyword searches for the very specific product I was recommending. Now way HTML site can achieve this.

So if you are a small business owner and want some quick exposure online, some targeted traffic  contact me and I can set up a wordpress site for a very reasonable cost. I will train you to update your site and teach you basic SEO functions.

From my experience Google love WordPress.

DIY

I am in the process of updating a Wordpress manual I created a while ago. Hopefully I will finish it in a week or so. The manual is a couple of versions behind now.

The purpose of the manual is to help people quickly put up a simple self hosted wordpress site. This can be just for your blog or it can be a full fledged small business site or an affiliate site.

In the Wordpress Manual I will teach you how to

  • Find a good hosting company to host your WordPress site
  • Install WordPress on your hosting account.
  • Upload a WordPress Theme (or template)
  • Resources of where you can get free themes
  • Custom themes
  • Must have plug ins
  • Writing copy
  • Uploading files to remote server
  • Inserting images
  • embedding videos

And much more….

I will be asking a small price for this manual as I have put in many hours of work.  At a later stage I would like to set up a forum where people who have the manual can discuss the problems they face or solutions etc.

If you feel you are technically savvy enought to setup WorPress and build a website this manual will make it really easy with detailed screenshots and step-by-step guidance.

Watch this space. :-)

Online advertising skyrockets

Industry watchers predict that overall online ad spending will increase by about 3 percent for the next two years, for a total of about $29.1 billion in 2010. The growth is being driven by search engine advertising (especially pay-per-click), which is expected to jump 13 percent by 2010.

Also growing rapidly is “Web 2.0? advertising (on video and social networks), though it represents only a small portion of the market because advertisers are still grappling with the formats. It is expected to increase by 20 percent – to $1.4 billion – by 2010.

As a small business you need to tap into this kind of marketing to get more revenue. Most of my website traffic comes from the Web 2.0. type writing posts, distributing the posts and having my signature in forum posting etc. This is free but takes a litte effort.

I also use Google adwords to drive traffic to my websites.

So if you want to go the Web 2.0 way I recommend you get your website updated to a one with content management system. I can set one up for you in a few days and can show you how to blog about your business and and tips on optimising your site for Search Engines.

Wordpress Sites Rock

Search Engines love wordpress website. Must be the way they are structured and the way you can popularise them.

What you can do with WordPress Sites:-

  1. Can be a normal site
  2. Can have a blog
  3. Can set up RSS feeds to popularise your site
  4. Can have plugin to create tags for your content. (These act like signposts for Search Engines)
  5. Add content regularly through posts in your blog or articles.
  6. Add pictures, embed videos easily
  7. Check your traffic stats regularly and tweak your content and posts accordingly
  8. Add book mark buttons
  9. Add social bookmark buttons (your visitors can bookmark you easily)
  10. Set up directory pings. (this kind of blasts your posts to about 200 news aggregators – kind of news broadcasters

Best things is you can do this all so easily once the site is set up.

It is much easier to get traffic fast to your site with WorPress running at the back. Doesn’t this sound ezy peazy?

Contact me to setup your wordpress site. It can be done in a couple of days! And see the difference.

The future of Internet

I read a very interesting article today on the BBC website.

The article traced the advent of Internet and how it has grown with a huge impact on the global population. We do banking, shopping, learn, interact with family and friends through the Internet.
Take me for example, I don’t think I can live without the Internet. I make my living because of the Internet- building websites. I learn all sorts of things from financial matters to craft with the help of sites like Youtube. (could not live without Youtube). I keep in touch with family and friends all over the world skyping and through FaceBook. I know a lot more about what is happening in their lives now. I twitter, blog, linkedin plaxo and a whole lot of other stuff for business.

The article states
“The implications of the rapid penetration of the internet are staggering. If current industry estimates prove correct, there will be 1.5 billion new internet users in the next two to three years – just over double the number of current users.” WOW!
The introduction of Internet Protocol (IP) version 6 into common usage means that the address space available to connect devices to the net is growing from 4.2 billion with IPv4 to 340 trillion, trillion, trillion addresses. With pervasive wireless connectivity, this means everything can talk to everything. (How about that)
Think of the opportunities that will be available! Staggering. You can sell, buy, download, learn, connect even more. You can make a lot of money if you play your cards correctly.

The article goes on to say
“The internet has proven to be a deeply transformative technology in the developed world, as so it will be for the developing world.
It will be an economically important tool that will provide a mechanism for the development of new business models, previously unknown ways connecting people and communities, new possibilities for the delivery of services, and a feedback loop for the population.”
So true Internet transformed me. I have managed to learn stuff that would have taken me years to access in a library in a few weeks/days. So think about this – do some brainstorming, find out what you are passionate about- create a business out of it, Slowly build it up and you can retire sooner!
Someone searched for wordpress ready sites in my stats today. Once you have an idea contact me and I can whip up a wordpress site for you in a jiffy for a reasonable price.

Spam on the rise again…

If you think you’re getting a lot of spam these days, well, you are not alone. Microsoft has released a report that says 97 % of mail that is being sent is unwanted spam like phishing attacks or viruses.
The good news: Spam filters are getting better than ever. Microsoft’s filter system for Exchange now scrubs out 39 out of every 40 emails sent. Spam also saw that slight decline thanks to the shut down last year of the ISP McColo, a major haven for spammers who suddenly had to go shopping elsewhere.

What are we being spammed about? Pharmacy and other product ads make up the lion’s share of spam, accounting for 72.2 percent of all spam sent. Only 10 % of that is for Viagra or Cialis. Image-only spam, dating come-ons, financial spam, and fraudulent diplomas round out the remainder of the most common spam subjects.
In the related world of malware infections, the Microsoft report noted that worldwide, 8.6 machines were suffering from malware for every 1,000 which were clean. That sounds pretty good, but it still translates to about 9 million computers worldwide suffering from malware attacks. What do you need to watch out for today, attack-wise? The most common attacks at the moment target Microsoft Office and PDF files, and those types of attacks are further on the rise.

Is your computer protected? The only way to stay ahead of these spammers is to keep all your softwares up to date and keep your Anti virus up to date as well. If you don’t have one I encourage you to buy a real anti virus. I use Pareto Logic anti virus. One worry out of my way.
